In the late 1800s, Carl Leopold Berggren, an enterprising man married to an Englishwoman with a penchant for biscuits at afternoon tea, saw a chance to introduce Sweden to the joy of these treats. Establishing Sweden's first biscuit bakery in Kungälv in 1888, the Nordre Älv river facilitated easy transportation. The bakery quickly thrived, earning accolades and the title of Royal Purveyor by 1897.
History
Over the years, Göteborgs Kex continued to innovate. By the 1930s, it became Scandinavia's most modern bakery, embracing electric baking for better flavor. Post-war challenges were met with resilience, and in the 1960s, a focus on marketing and expansion into international markets defined the brand. Marabou became the sole owner in 1979, navigating further growth.
The 1980s marked a golden era, witnessing bakery expansions, increased exports, and an explosion of flavors. The 2010s saw a sustainable move, relocating production to Riga, Latvia.
